Mzee Yusuph & Jahazi Modern Taarab – V.I.P
Tanzanian Modern Taarab legend Mzee Yusuph, together with Jahazi Modern Taarab, presents “V.I.P,” the title track from the group’s 2016 album. The song showcases Mzee Yusuph’s signature long-form Taarab storytelling, blending rich coastal melodies, emotional vocals, and modern synthesizer-driven production.
Released on May 25, 2016, “V.I.P” appears on the album V.I.P and is also featured on The Best of Mzee Yusuph. With a running time of approximately 17 minutes and 22 seconds, the track gives Mzee Yusuph plenty of space to deliver an extended lyrical performance and explore the expressive style that defines Modern Taarab.
The message behind “V.I.P” focuses on self-worth, respect, love, and dignity. By using the idea of a “Very Important Person,” the song emphasizes the importance of being valued and treated with respect in relationships. It also encourages listeners to recognize their worth and never allow others to make them feel less important.
