Jahazi Modern Taarab – Mkuki Kwa Nguruwe
Tanzanian Modern Taarab group Jahazi Modern Taarab presents “Mkuki Kwa Nguruwe,” a classic Taarab song featuring the powerful vocals of Khadija Yusuph. The track combines strong storytelling, poetic Swahili lyrics, and meaningful social commentary.
Released on May 25, 2014, as part of the album Two in One, the song was composed and produced by Mzee Yusuph and runs for approximately 13 minutes.
The title “Mkuki Kwa Nguruwe” comes from the Swahili proverb “Mkuki kwa nguruwe, kwa binadamu mchungu,” which teaches that people may hurt others easily but struggle when they experience the same pain themselves. The song therefore addresses hypocrisy, double standards, and treating others with fairness.
