Abeba Lipordo is a Congolese (DRC) composer and singer. He first made his mark by writing songs for Papa Wemba’s famous band, Viva La Musica.
Around 1993, he became part of a key group within the band known as Cours Des Grands (“Grown-up’s Playground”), where he remained active until about 2006. During those years, Abeba worked closely with artists like Felix Wazekwa and Dessy Mbwesse, who later went on to build their own successful solo careers.
Like many other Viva La Musica members such as Reddy Amisi and Stino Mubi, Abeba eventually stepped out on his own and released a few albums, especially in the early stages with support from the band. He also had Papa Wemba’s full approval, as the legendary leader was known for encouraging his musicians to branch out and pursue solo paths.
