Kent State University is a public research university located in Kent, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1910 as a teacher-training institution and became a full-fledged university in 1935. The university is known for its programs in business, education, and the arts, and has a student population of over 41,000. Additionally, Kent State is best known for the Kent State shootings, which occurred on May 4, 1970, when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on a group of unarmed college students during a protest, killing four and injuring nine. The incident was a seminal event in the history of the United States and marked a turning point in the country’s attitude towards the Vietnam War.
